Katz center names business award winners

The Family Enterprise Center at the Katz Graduate School of Business and the Family Firm Institute, Pittsburgh Chapter, have announced the winners of their 1997 Family Business of the Year Awards.

Awards are given to firms that have developed successful programs that allow employees to combine business and family. Nine winners are chosen in three categories based on firm size.

* Small category winners, based on businesses with less than 50 employees, were Caldwell's Windoware in the West End, Schiff Printing of East Liberty, and Weisshouse of Shadyside and Squirrel Hill.

* Medium category winners, based on firms with 50 to 250 employees, included McGinnis Sisters Specialty Food Stores of Baldwin, Weleski Transfer of Tarentum, and Hunter's Truck Sales and Service of Butler.

* Large category winners, based on businesses with 250 or more employees, were McCarl's Inc. of Beaver Falls, Howard Hanna of Pittsburgh, and #1 Cochran of Monroeville.

Family Business of the Year Awards were presented last month.
