UPB hires alumni director

Marcell A. Mallette has been selected as the first director of alumni relations for Pitt's Bradford campus (UPB). A 1990 graduate of the campus, Mallette has been working as an administrative assistant in UPB's Office of Development and University Relations, and Office of Public Relations and Marketing since 1995. A native of Bradford, Mallette has extensive experience working on alumni-related and fundraising projects, including coordination of UPB's alumni weekend, graduation dinner and various donor recognition events.

In addition, Mallette has closely worked with the Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association (PBAA), and has been directly involved with production of the Alumni News section of UPB's Portraits magazine and the newly created PBAA Post alumni newsletter.

"With a growing and dynamic alumni base, it is important for Pitt-Bradford to maintain strong contacts with our graduates," said Karen Niemic Buchheit, UPB's director of development and university relations. "As the new alumni director, Marcell will work toward strengthening Pitt-Bradford's existing alumni programs, while developing new resources to benefit the alumni population and the college." Mallette said one of the most important roles of the alumni office will be to help reconnect alumni with former friends and professors, and to keep them informed about what is happening at UPB.

"We will be exploring a lot of exciting opportunities to improve the services available to our alumni," Mallette said, "including a new website and career networking program, as well as providing them with new ways in which they can give something back to the college, such as getting involved in the student recruitment process and participating in the annual giving campaign." Mallette also will work closely with the PBAA board of directors to carry out its five-year strategic plan, which is geared toward building loyalty to UPB and increasing alumni involvement with the campus.
