Daniel named to new position

Jack L. Daniel has been named vice provost for undergraduate studies and dean of students, part of a restructuring in the Provost’s office that will reduce the number of vice provost positions from six to five.

Daniel has been vice provost for academic affairs since 1992 and has served as interim dean of students since July 2001. He also is a professor in the Department of Communication.

In making the announcement, Provost James V. Maher said “I believe that merging the responsibilities held within the vice provost for academic affairs and vice provost for student affairs positions … will both provide better service to students and make it possible to coordinate student and academic affairs more effectively than ever before.”

Daniel’s new responsibilities include undergraduate enrollment management efforts, Maher said. He also will oversee undergraduate admissions and financial aid and chair the Provost’s Advisory Committee

on Undergraduate Programs.
