Pitt-Bradford gets grant for IT courses

The Verizon Foundation awarded a $15,000 grant to Pitt’s Bradford campus to deliver information technology (IT) courses via interactive television from the Pittsburgh campus to students and local industry employees at Bradford.

The non-credit IT courses are offered by the College of General Studies’ Computer Learning Center, which provides IT skills courses to business and industry. The courses will be available beginning in spring 2003 to students studying management information systems (MIS) and local IT employees.

The MIS program at Pitt-Bradford, a 30-credit minor within in the business management program, was launched last fall. The program provides students with a broad base of business and information systems concepts. It supplements the conceptual foundation with additional IT skills classes as well as internship opportunities.

Verizon Foundation supports programs that create innovative e-solutions, help bridge the digital divide, foster basic and computer literacy, help enrich communities and create a skilled workforce. The foundation promotes partnerships in technology with organizations serving the needs of diverse communities, people with disabilities, and the economically and socially disadvantaged.
