Oakland mural unveiled

oaklandmuralKKB

A new mural featuring the people and places of Oakland past and present was unveiled Oct. 22 on the wall of Sorrento’s Pizza Roma on Atwood Street.

The mural is a collaboration of the Oakland Planning and Development Corp., the MLK (Moving the Lives of Kids) Mural Project and local community members, whose input on the content of the public art project was solicited through community meetings.

Surrounding a central image of Forbes Field, clockwise from the top left, the mural depicts Phipps Conservatory; the Schenley Plaza carousel; the Panther Hollow bridge; Andy Warhol, Fred Rogers and Bill Mazeroski; Heinz Chapel; Oakland residential architecture; Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, and a representation of Oakland community members.
