Semester at Sea captain dies
Antonios Kritikos, captain of the Semester at Sea (SAS) program’s ship, the MV Explorer, died of an apparent heart attack July 4 during the summer voyage. He was 59 and had served as captain on three prior SAS voyages.
The ship made its scheduled stop at St. Petersburg, Russia, yesterday (July 6) according to SAS spokesperson Paul Watson. Jeremy Kingston, a veteran ship’s captain, assumed command in St. Petersburg. The death will not affect the itinerary of the voyage, which launched June 17 and continues through Aug. 21, Watson said.
