Blue & Gold Society wins award

Pitt's Blue and Gold Society recently received the Outstanding Organization Award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Higher Education (CASE) at the CASE 2000 Association of Student Advancement Programs international assembly in Phoenix.

Mary Jean Lovett, Blue and Gold Society adviser, and Jennifer Smith, president, accepted the award.

The Blue and Gold Society is a group of undergraduates who act as Pitt ambassadors, helping to promote a positive image of the University and its students. Since its inception in 1991, the society has represented the student body and the Pitt Alumni Association at University, community and alumni functions.

Society members participate in community service activities, including a gift drive to benefit Family House; Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and the Pittsburgh Project, a neighborhood cleanup effort. Students also act as Pitt representatives for visiting dignitaries.
