Regionals’ commencement speakers announced

DA-SC-07-27280Gen. Jack Keane, a retired four-star general with 37 years of public service, will be this year’s commencement speaker at the Greensburg campus. UPG will hold its commencement exercises at 11 a.m. April 30 on Ridilla Field.

Keane continues to advise government officials on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also works as a national security analyst for Fox News.

Pitt-Johnstown will hold its commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. April 30 on the Campus Mall near Blackington Hall.

UPJ_MurrayElizabeth “Liz” Murray, whose life story was depicted in the 2003 made-for-TV movie “From Homeless to Harvard,” will be the keynote speaker.

The child of cocaine-addicted parents, Murray became homeless at the age of 15. She enrolled in the Humanities Preparatory Academy in New York City and graduated in only two years while camping out in city parks and subway stations. She received a full scholarship to Harvard in 2000, graduating in 2009 with a BS in psychology.

DanielJack Daniel, Pitt Distinguished Service Professor of Communication, will address Pitt-Titusville graduates at 2 p.m. April 30 in the J. Curtis McKinney Student Union.

Daniel has served the University in a number of administrative capacities, including vice provost for Undergraduate Studies and dean of students, 2002-05.

Pitt-Bradford’s speaker — international opera star Marilyn Horne — was announced earlier. The UPB ceremony will take place May 1 at 2 p.m. in the KOA Arena of the Sport and Fitness Center.
