Free anxiety screenings offered May 2

UPMC Health System will offer free anxiety screenings as part of National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day, May 2. The screenings will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. at UPMC Shadyside Auditorium, 5230 Centre Ave.

More than 38 million Americans will suffer an anxiety disorder during their lives, yet only 25 percent of them seek treatment. Each year, National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day is held nationwide to build awareness and educate the public about these disorders and to help people who need treatment get it.

National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day is a program of the National Mental Illness Screening Project and is co-sponsored by more than 15 national mental health organizations.

Attendees will be able to view a video, receive information about anxiety disorders and depression, complete a screening questionnaire, discuss mental health with a professional and receive a referral, if necessary. Individual screenings will be private.

For more information about the screenings, call 624-5500.
