Payment to top 5 companies listed

In addition to disclosing salary information, the University's IRS Form 990 lists the five independent contractors that received the most money from Pitt during the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2000.

Pitt paid $1,000,713 to architects Burt Hill Kosar Rittelmann Associates of Butler, Pa. for design work on campus building and renovation projects, including the Scaife Hall renovation.

Oracle Corp. of Redwood Shores, Calif., received $924,230 for computer consulting, mainly on the new Human Resources payroll system. The University paid $852,279 to another computer consulting firm, Lucent Technologies of Sunnyvale, Calif., for software services.

Pitt paid $914,193 to Mellon Bank, NA and $745,207 to Capital Guardian Trust Co. of New York, NY for management of the University's endowment.

Pitt paid 63 other contractors, not listed in the IRS document, more than $50,000 each for professional services.
