UPMC renews marathon sponsorship
UPMC Health System has renewed its title sponsorship of the City of Pittsburgh Marathon. The 2002 marathon will be May 5. UPMC Health System has been the title sponsor since 1996.
Under UPMC's corporate sponsorship, marathon event participation has grown by about 50 percent. The Mellon relay team competition has grown to be one of the top five marathon relay events in the country.
The 2002 UPMC Health System/City of Pittsburgh Marathon will continue its matching grant program for the Neighborhood Festival Program, including "Music by the Mile," which in 2001 featured more than 40 musical acts all along the marathon race course.
