• Hurricane Survivors in Pittsburgh

(various days and times)

The University is part of a consortium of community organizations and local government agencies that are crafting specific ways in which the region can be of assistance to survivors of Hurricane Katrina. One initiative is the temporary resettlement of a number of survivors to Pittsburgh. This includes addressing housing, medical, employment and many other needs. Please indicate if you would like to help with the effort.

• Walk to Fight Lou Gehrig’s Disease

Saturday, Sept. 24, 7:30-10 am or 10 am-1 pm

Volunteers will assist the ALS Association with its annual fundraising walk in North Park.

• Sci-Tech Spectacular

Saturday, Oct. 1, & Sunday, Oct. 2

9:30 am-1 pm or 12:30-5 pm

The Carnegie Science Center on the North Side is sponsoring a Sci-Tech Spectacular. Volunteers will assist exhibitors and presenters and act as greeters.

• Project Bundle-Up Shopping Day

Saturday, Oct. 22, 7-9:30 am

Each volunteer will help a needy child choose a winter coat at an area department store (Monroeville, Beaver Valley Mall, Moon Twp., Century III Mall, West View, Swissvale). The Salvation Army will supply refreshments and gift vouchers. Sign up by Oct. 10. Please indicate the shopping areas most convenient to you.

• Global Links Medical Supplies

Thursday, Oct. 27, 5:30-7:30 pm

Volunteers will be working at the Bloomfield office of Global Links, an international aid organization that collects and repackages surplus medical supplies for distribution to needy clinics worldwide.
