The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $90,000 to the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) for economically disadvantaged and U.S. minority graduate students preparing for careers in community development.

HUD’s community development work-study program will fund three graduate students pursuing a Master of Public Administration degree in GSPIA. The program provides full tuition and fees; funding for books, supplies and conference travel for four terms, and three paid internships.

“Planning and community development is essential if we are to revitalize our urban areas,” said David Y. Miller, associate dean in GSPIA. “The purpose of the HUD community development work study program grant is in harmony with GSPIA’s urban mission and our partnerships with the local community.”

Students must apply to GSPIA by Nov. 1 for studies beginning January 2006. Details are available at www.gspia.pitt.edu.
