Higher education group to meet in Pgh. June 14

The Governor’s Advisory Commission on Postsecondary Education is taking to the road to gather citizens’ input through a series of public field meetings, including one in Pittsburgh. That meeting is set for 9-11:30 a.m. June 14 at the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, 11 Stanwix Street, Downtown.

A meeting agenda was not available at press time.

Other meetings are set for June 1 in Philadelphia, June 14 in West Middlesex and June 28 in Wilkes-Barre.

The commission, created by Gov. Tom Corbett in conjunction with his fiscal year 2013 budget proposal (see Feb. 9 University Times), exists to make recommendations on establishing and maintaining a postsecondary education strategy to meet changing demographics and workforce needs. It has been ordered to report to the governor by Nov. 15.

Chaired by former state senator Rob Wonderling, president and CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the commission consists of 31 members, including Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg, representing various higher-education interests.
