Pet food drive runs through July

Pitt’s second annual pet food drive, a program to help financially strapped area families feed their pets, runs through July.

Pitt’s People for Pets again is partnering with Animal Friends’ Chow Wagon program to provide pet food to area food banks, including the Oakland Food Pantry. The Oakland Food Pantry also provides litter, leashes and pet treats to needy pet owners.

Online monetary donations to the pet food drive can be made by clicking on the University of Pittsburgh Chow Wagon Drive link at www.thinkingoutsidethecage.org. Checks payable to Animal Friends should be sent to 562 Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh 15237.

Last year’s pet food drive raised nearly $2,000 from the University community.

Pitt’s People for Pets campaign also is accepting donated pet food. Last year, the University community donated more than 4,000 pounds of pet food to the effort. Donated canned and dry cat and dog food, kitty litter, dog and cat treats and other pet products can be dropped off though July at the following on-campus collection sites:

• Alumni Hall main lobby, Lytton Avenue entrance.

• Cathedral of Learning ground floor elevator lobby.

• Craig Hall lobby.

• Hillman Library ground floor lobby.

• Parran Hall Fifth Avenue lobby.

• Petersen Events Center second floor mezzanine.

• Posvar Hall main floor elevator lobby.

• Public Safety Building lobby.

• Scaife Hall 4th floor Terrace Street entrance.

• Pittsburgh campus ULS libraries.

• William Pitt Union main floor information desk lobby.

Pitt sponsors of the pet food drive include the Office of Community Relations, Athletics, Public Safety, the University Library System, the Office of the Chancellor and Student Affairs.
