Book Center relocating during renovations

C:UsersjessegDocuments8305-Central File_jesseg.pdfA new skylight, shown in this architects’ rendering, is part of $9.43 million in renovations to the University’s Book Center.

To accommodate the project, the bookstore will be closed Monday and Tuesday, July 30 and 31, while stock is moved to temporary space in the former GotUsed Bookstore at 3601 Forbes Ave. The Book Center will reopen there on Wednesday, Aug. 1. Store hours are 9 am-5 pm Monday-Friday through Aug. 17. Saturday hours (9 am-5 pm) begin Aug. 18. Rush hours begin Aug. 20 and will be posted at www.pittbookcenter.com.

She said the temporary store primarily will house textbooks and course materials including goggles, lab coats and lab notebooks. The Book Center’s complete line of merchandise can be seen online at www.pittbookcenter.com.

Fyock shared some of the features planned for the renovated Book Center:

“We will have places for students to study, for patrons to gather in comfortable nooks and crannies throughout the general book section, and an area with seating space and the technology to support a variety of media presentations. All activities can be accompanied by a mug of hot coffee, a soft drink or a snack purchased at our coffee shop.

The store will include movable fixtures to accommodate a variety of events and displays. “We will also have the ability to open various areas of the store after regular hours to accommodate events,” Fyock said.
