Staff Assn. Council elections set

The Staff Association Council (SAC) will be holding its first vote under a new set of bylaws to elect five officers and four committee chairs.

According to Babs Mowery, chair of the elections committee, SAC will accept nominations and self-nominations for the offices and committees April 10-30.

The new offices — president, executive vice president, vice president of public relations, vice president of finance and parliamentarian — replace the previous president, vice president of steering, vice president for marketing & communications and treasurer.

The four new committee chairs will take over the responsibilities of 11 current committees, consolidating their duties. The operations committee will cover bylaws, attendance, membership and research, which currently falls under the governance committee. The external relations committee  chair will oversee marketing, communications, programming and events, while the staff relations committee chair will be in charge of benefits, salary and job classifications, grievance, diversity and mentoring efforts. The fourth chair will head the health, safety, information technology and transportation committee.

The new bylaws also designate each officer as a liaison to work with one of the committees.

SAC members will submit questions by May 1 for officer candidates to answer at the group’s May 8 meeting. Committee chair candidates will be offered the chance to make statements to the membership at the meeting as well.

Candidates’ statements and photographs will be posted on the SAC web site, visible to members only, May 22-29, at which time online voting will open and continue through 5 p.m. on June 11. The winners will be announced at the next day’s SAC meeting.

SAC elections are held every two years, during odd numbered years. For future elections, the elections committee, currently an ongoing committee, will be formed as an ad hoc committee to oversee the process.
