Pitt adds on-campus health screening sessions

Due to high demand, additional Fitness for Life on-campus blood panel screening dates are being offered to Pitt employees covered by the UPMC Health Plan, the University’s medical insurer.

According to John R. Kozar, Pitt director of benefits, about 600 individuals participated in the Pittsburgh campus health screenings last fall. Nearly 3,300 health plan members total had completed blood screenings through December, he said.

When employees (and their covered spouses or domestic partners) complete a voluntary blood panel by March 31, they are eligible for a premium-free month in July 2006. Both adults will need to have the screening completed by March 31.

Screenings may be completed either through a personal physician or through one of the on-campus screenings. Physicians’ screenings must be completed by March 31.

“However, UPMC Health Plan will accommodate all on-campus screenings scheduled prior to March 31 for the premium holiday,” Kozar said. “Extended hours or additional dates will be scheduled to accommodate the demand. March 31 is the deadline to schedule an on-campus screening.”

Kozar cautioned, however, that there is likely to be a high demand for appointments in March as the deadline approaches.

The additional dates for the on-campus screenings, scheduled for 7-11 a.m., are:

• Feb. 14: Alumni Hall 7th floor ballroom

• Feb. 15: Alumni Hall 7th floor ballroom

• Feb. 16: S100 Biomedical Science Tower

• March 7: 4127 Sennott Square

• March 8: 4127 Sennott Square

• March 9: William Pitt Union Dining Rooms A & B

• March 27: Alumni Hall 7th floor ballroom

• March 28: Alumni Hall 7th floor ballroom

• March 29: William Pitt Union Kurtzman Room
