The Scientist magazine lists Pitt among best workplaces

scientistThe Scientist magazine ranked Pitt as the fourth-best place to work in academia in the United States, an improvement from No. 14 in 2012.  The magazine ranked a total of 20 institutions.

The Scientist polled more than 1,200 of its readers who identified as full-time scientists. They rated their organizations on 37 criteria in eight categories: job satisfaction; peers; infrastructure and environment; research resources; pay; management and policies; teaching and mentoring, and tenure and promotion.

Strengths listed for Pitt were the pay and the infrastructure and environment. Weaknesses cited were teaching/mentoring and management and policies.

Top ranked was La Jolla (Calif.) Institute for Allergy and Immunology, followed by Blood Systems Research Institute in San Francisco and Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City.
