Heinz Chapel turns 75
As part of Heinz Memorial Chapel’s 75th anniversary celebration, a Lego model of the building was unveiled yesterday, Nov. 20, in the chapel’s narthex. The model will be on view until Dec. 20 during the chapel’s regular hours, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday noon-5 p.m.
Local Lego artist Jason Burik constructed the model, which is 26.5 inches high and two feet wide, from 2,800 bricks. One hundred raffle tickets are being sold at $75 each for a chance to win the replica.
“We wanted something fun, different and unique to be a part of this event,” says assistant director Amy McCloskey.
Those interested in buying a chance on the Lego replica need to bring cash or a check to the chapel before the Dec. 20 drawing.
In addition, there will be a day-long celebration of the chapel anniversary on Nov. 23, including a mass vow renewal in the chapel and a reception at the University Club, as well as a free 8 p.m. concert by OvreArts, the chapel’s resident ensemble.
