UPMC Shadyside recognized for cardiovascular program

UPMC Shadyside has been named among the top 100 cardiovascular hospitals in the country, according to a study by HCIA-Sachs Institute Inc. The hospital is the only one in the state to be named among the top 100 in the category, "Teaching Hospital with a Cardiovascular Residency Program."

The study, "100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success," names the best-performing hospitals for cardiovascular services. The study focused on services in the areas of acute myocardial infarction, angioplasty and coronary artery bypass procedures.

HCIA-Sachs leads the health care industry in providing subscribers, providers, employers and pharmaceutical companies with strategic consumer and patient data. The methodology used in calculating the performance measures for the study is based on computerized review and analysis of 887,172 Medicare cardiovascular cases.

"We are honored and pleased to receive this recognition by HCIA," said Henry Mordoh, president of UPMC Shadyside and UPMC Presbyterian. "Our physicians and medical staff work hard to maintain high standards in all aspects of patient care."

The award winners are announced in the current edition of the trade publication Modern Healthcare Magazine.
