CPR, first aid classes offered

The safety and security committee of the Staff Association Council (SAC) announced its third annual CPR/basic first aid courses certification drive. These one-session courses are open to Pitt faculty, staff, students, family and friends.

The CPR courses are taught by certified American Heart Association instructors who also will discuss disease and injury prevention and prudent heart living. The first aid class is taught by certified American Red Cross safety and first aid instructors.

Courses include:

• Heart saver/AED — 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 1, 360 Benedum Hall. Fee: $25.

This course covers adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and foreign body airway obstruction, and also includes use of the automated external defibrillator (AED). Completing the course earns two-year CPR certification.

• Health care provider course — 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 8, 360 Benedum Hall. Fee: $30.

This course also covers adult and pediatric CPR along with choking care and use of the AED. It is designed for people planning to be, or already involved in, the health care field. Completing the course earns two-year CPR certification.

• Basic first aid — 9 a.m.-noon April 8, 361 Benedum Hall. Fee: $25.

This course includes: care of cuts, scrapes, bruises, bleeding, shock, muscle and joint pain/fracture, sudden illness, poisoning and heat- and cold-related illness. Completion of the course yields a two-year basic first aid certification.

To register, contact the SAC office at sac@imap.pitt.edu or 4-4236 by March 28. There are two payment options:

• Deliver or mail a personal check payable to the University of Pittsburgh (include Social Security number on the check) to the SAC office at 313 Bellefield Hall.

• Submit to the above address an interdepartmental transfer to account #04-0615-4500-25162.

No refunds are available.

Free campus parking vouchers for all non-permit holder participants will be provided compliments of the Parking Services Office.
