New program to encourage prostate cancer research

The University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute's Prostate and Urologic Cancer Center has established a program to encourage the development of pilot projects in prostate cancer research.

The program includes funding of up to $20,000 for up to two years, tissue and cell resources, and guidance in the development of the projects. Grants and assistance will be awarded on a competitive basis and are open to researchers at Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University. Proposals will be solicited twice a year with deadlines of Oct. 15 and April 15.

To apply, a researcher must submit a three-page description of his/her research project and do a short presentation on the project.

Reviewers will evaluate the scientific quality of the application, the translational potential of the work and the potential for future external funding. Applications will be reviewed by at least two committee members with external reviewers utilized where appropriate.

Applications for current funding are due Oct. 15. For further information contact Iris E. Lowe, UPCI, 692-2759.
