Restaurants offer "heart healthy" fare

To make it easier to "eat healthy" in Pittsburgh, UPMC Shadyside/Presbyterian has collaborated with 17 local restaurants to create a "Dining With Heart" menu that meets UPMC dietary guidelines.

"One of the biggest difficulties while dining out is finding menu items that are both good-tasting and heart-healthy," said Joyce Scott-Smith, director of food and nutrition at UPMC Shadyside.

"Dining With Heart" menu selections are guaranteed to contain a certain limited number of calories from fat. Participating restaurants include: Abate Seafood Co. in Waterworks Mall, Amel's in Mt. Lebanon, The Balcony and Casbah in Shadyside, Common Plea and Seventh Street Grille in Downtown, Sweet Basil's Bar & Grill in Squirrel Hill, Wright's Seafood Inn in Carnegie, Grand Concourse in Station Square, Juno Trattoria in One Oxford Centre and Ross Park Mall, LeMont on Mt. Washington, and Dingbats in Waterworks Mall, Robinson Towne Center, Ross Park Mall, One Oxford Centre and Route 8 and Route 422 in Butler.

Also participating is Kimberly's Basket Affair in Squirrel Hill, a shop-by-phone gift shop that offers heart-healthy gift baskets and boxes.
