Pitt gets grant to renovate Falk health sciences library

Pitt has received a $125,000 grant from the Maurice Falk Medical Fund to expand and renovate the Maurice and Laura Falk Library of the Health Sciences in Scaife Hall.

The library was established in 1957 with funds contributed by the Falk Foundation. The Maurice Falk Medical Fund also provided a grant for construction of the History of Medicine Room in the library in the 1970s.

"We are excited by the opportunity to enlarge our facility and anticipate that construction will be completed by the end of 1997, so our dedication will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Falk Library opening," said Patricia Mickelson, director of the Health Sciences library system.

Falk Library serves more than 8,000 faculty, students and staff in the schools of the Health Sciences and the medical center. The Falk grant will allow the library to expand into an adjacent area of 6,000 square feet, and add more than 60 study spaces and a new service area.
