With donations still trickling in, Pitt is more than $18,000 above its 1997 United Way goal of $442,000. During the 1996 campaign, the University collected just over $421,000. As of Jan. 20, the 1997 campaign had collected $460,267, according to Michelle Garraux, communications coordinator for the campaign and director of University Graphics and Printing.

"We are really thrilled about it," Garraux said. "And the final total will be even better." The efforts of Pitt faculty, staff and students also has earned the University the United Way's Outstanding Campaign Performance Award. The award will be presented and a videotape shown of the Pitt campaign during the United Way awards luncheon on Feb. 20, according to Garraux.
