Purdue president to speak at Pitt's commencement

Purdue University President Steven C. Beering, a Pitt alumnus, will address Pitt's commencement ceremonies April 26 at the Civic Arena.

Beering graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School then earned his B.S. from Pitt's former College of Liberal Arts in 1954, followed by an M.D. from Pitt's medical school in 1958.

Beering spent much of his administrative career at Indiana University School of Medicine before assuming the presidency of Purdue in 1983. He also holds Though Beering has spent all of his post-medical school career outside of Pittsburgh, he has retained ties to the University. He also was a member of Pitt's Board of Visitors from 1977 to 1985. He was awarded the University of Pittsburgh Distinguished Medical Alumnus Award in 1983, and was awarded a Pitt Bicentennial Medallion of Distinction in 1986.
