Magazine honors Pitt law dean

Pitt law school dean Peter Shane was one of 40 "Young Leaders of the Academy" profiled in the January/February issue of Change, the Magazine of Higher Learning.

In choosing the 40 academicians, Change mailed surveys to nearly 11,000 members of the higher education community and solicited nominations through a full-age ad in the Chronicle of Higher Education. Some 404 leaders were identified.

The 40 men and women selected "surely do not include all the young leaders of the academy, but this group clearly represents many of the strongest and the smartest," Change reported.

Shane is a nationally recognized scholar in administrative and constitutional law. A graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School, he co-founded the Section for the Law School Dean of the Association of American Law Schools; was a founding dean of the American Bar Association's African Law Initiative; and chairs the program committee of the Council on Legal Education Opportunity.
