Suit with former law prof settled

Former Pitt law professor Candice Hoke settled her gender discrimination lawsuit against the University May 26 for an undisclosed sum.

Hoke, who began teaching at Pitt in 1987, sought tenure here in 1992 but her request was denied.

She sued the University in federal court in 1995, claiming she'd been denied tenure because of her gender. Hoke's case had been scheduled to go to trial June 1.

She taught at Case Western Reserve law school from 1993 through 1994. Since 1995, Hoke has been a tenured professor at Cleveland State University's Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
