Japanese Information Center opens

The Japan Information Center is ready for business.

Located in 206 Hillman Library, the center is a collaboration between Pitt and the Japan Center for Intercultural Communications (JCIC) in Tokyo. The center is designed to be an information gateway between the U.S. and Japan. It is staffed by a full-time Japan information specialist with direct access to the University's resources in Japanese studies and the resources of the JCIC. Among the information available at the center are English translations of Japanese government documents, economic reports, white papers, speeches, official statements, press releases, facts and figures on Japan, and an index of publications by government and quasi government organizations.

Anyone can use the center without charge. If the staff cannot locate the requested information, the center will forward the question to the JCIC in Tokyo. Most questions can be answered within 24 hours.

Funded solely by the JCIC, the center can be reached by calling 648-7617; fax 648-3199; e-mail pjic@vms.cis.pitt.edu; World Wide Web http://www.pitt.edu/~pjic, or by campus mail: Japan Information Center, 206 Hillman Library.
