Dance marathon benefit set

The second annual University of Pittsburgh-Family House Dance Marathon has been scheduled for March 22-23 at the Fitzgerald Field House.

The 24-hour dance will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and end at 7 p.m. on Saturday. It is open to all Pitt students, faculty and staff. Both dancers and volunteer helpers are needed.

Each dancer is asked to make a minimum donation of $150 and to dance for the entire 24 hours, with breaks. The money can be paid by the dancer or raised through fund-raising activities. All donations are due by March 18.

Dancer registration is Feb. 14 and 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the lower level of the William Pitt Union. All registered dancers must attend a mandatory meeting on either March 19 or 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the lower lounge of the William Pitt Union. Prizes will be awarded based on dollars raised. The grand prize will be a 1996 Geo Tracker convertible. The top fund-raiser also wins his or her height in compact discs. Organizations, dormitories and all groups of 20 or more dancers will receive a color television.

A donation of $150 wins a dance marathon T-shirt and one chance on the Tracker; $200 gets a T-shirt and two chances on the Tracker; $250, a T-shirt, $25 Lazarus gift certificate and three chances on the Tracker; $300 gets a T-shirt, Sony clock radio and four chances on the Tracker; $400 gets a T-shirt, Sony Walkman and six chances on the Tracker, and $500 gets a T-shirt, $50 ATT Wireless gift certificate and eight Tracker chances.

Located at 233 McKee Place, Family House is a place where families and adult patients with serious illnesses who must travel to Pittsburgh for specialized medical care can stay for a reasonable rate.
