Food drive runs through June

food drive

The Pitt Partnership for Food drive is underway on the Pittsburgh campus through June. The annual event benefits neighbors served by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Online donations can be made at pittsburghfoodbank.org/Pitt. Online donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar through the Chancellor’s Challenge. According to organizers in the Office of Community and Governmental Relations, in combination with the chancellor’s match and the food bank’s purchasing power, every dollar donated provides 10 meals.

Donation bins for non-perishable items in non-glass containers are located in Alumni Hall, Benedum Hall, Cathedral of Learning, Craig Hall, Eureka Building, Hillman Library, Mervis Hall, O’Hara Student Center, Park Plaza, Petersen Events Center, Cochran Public Safety Building, Scaife Hall, Thackeray Hall, Thomas Boulevard, Posvar Hall, the University Store on Fifth and the William Pitt Union.

The most wanted items include low-sugar, high-fiber cereal; tuna and salmon packed in water; fruit packed in juice or water; canned beans; peanut butter; hand soap and toiletries; toilet/facial tissues; detergent; diapers; low- or no-sodium canned vegetables.

The University partners with the food bank all year. On the second Thursday of most months, Pitt volunteers participate in the food bank’s Produce to People event. The University provides transportation, departing from Bigelow Boulevard near Soldiers and Sailors hall. There will be no Pitt trip to the food bank this month; trips will resume in July.
