Asian studies gets grant from Samsung

The Samsung Petrochemical Co. has awarded Pitt's Asian studies program a two-year grant of $50,000 for the study of contemporary Korea.

Arranged by Samsung president Ungsuh Park, who is a University alumnus, the grant will support papers by Pitt faculty and students on Korean politics, business and industry, international relations, and other fields related to Korea's politics and economy.

The grant also will be used to sponsor two major conferences on Korea at Pitt during 1996-97 and to support the work of two faculty members and four graduate students in Korea.
