TA/TF teach-in set for Aug. 27

A teach-in and orientation for new Arts and Sciences teaching assistants and teaching fellows will be held Aug. 27 in Forbes Quad. Pitt faculty and experienced teaching assistants will conduct sessions on a wide variety of teaching topics. Sessions are open to all members of the Pitt community. There is no charge, but those interested are encouraged to pre-register by calling 624-6671. Participation is required for new FAS TA/TFs, unless their department has made other arrangements.

Iain Campbell, professor of biological sciences, will give the keynote address, "Survival Skills in the College Classroom," at noon. Concurrent sessions of 50 minutes each are scheduled between 9 and 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3:40 p.m. Some of the more than 60 sessions include Teaching in Labs, Dealing With Difficult Students, Tips on Grading Writing Assignments, Creating a Classroom Environment Where Everyone Can Learn, Avoiding Plagiarism and Cheating, Designing Great Overheads, and Making the Most of Your Teaching Evaluations.
