Join fellow book lovers and spend a Saturday sorting books for Goodwill Industries’ newest business venture.

* Green Harvest at Longview farm, near Butler

Saturday, July 29, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 12, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Volunteers will be assisting the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank by harvesting kale, collards, broccoli, green beans and tomatoes, as well as assisting with an irrigation system on the first Saturday. The second week, volunteers will harvest squash, sweet corn and bok choi.

* Refugee services orientation thursday, Aug. 24, noon-1 p.m.

Catholic Charities and Jewish Family and Children’s Services have joined forces to welcome new immigrants to Pittsburgh. Volunteers are still needed to help acculturate these newest residents.This lunch-hour orientation session on campus is designed to help you decide if you would like to commit a limited amount of time on an ongoing basis to this cross-cultural experience.

In this annual benefit for the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Pennsylvania, Pitt volunteers will be assisting with the registration of team captains.

* United Way Day of Caring Wednesday,

sept. 13, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Volunteer Pool members are invited to join over 300 other staff and faculty in a day of service at a nearby social service agency. Projects range from placements in health education, environmental, food bank and home improvement settings, as well as service to neighbors right here in South Oakland. Volunteers will be given paid release time with the approval of their supervisors.
