Thomas Fitzpatrick

Former professor of medical and hospital administration Thomas B. Fitzpatrick died of cancer Aug. 18. He was 79. He retired from the University in 1985.

Fitzpatrick began teaching at Pitt as an associate professor in the Graduate School of Public Health in 1968. Prior to joining the Pitt faculty, he worked as vice president of services for Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania. Fitzpatrick also taught at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor from 1958 to 1963 and was a member of the staff of Citizen's General Hospital in New Kensington and the former Montefiore Hospital.

In addition, he served as a consultant to several companies and institutions.

Fitzpatrick is survived by his wife, Sylvia Frisch; a son, Tom of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Miriam of Cherry Hill, N.J.; two sisters, Mary Reimel of Yardley, Bucks County, and Catherine Berret of Johnstown; and a brother, Joseph of Arizona.
