Proposals requested for 1st teaching excellence forum
Provost James Maher has issued a call for proposals to participate in the first University teaching excellence conference. The March 31-April 1 conference will be a combination of workshops, panels, discussion sessions and individual paper presentations.
The theme of the conference is "What Works in University Teaching." Suggested topics are: coping with large classes, working with high-risk populations, maintaining standards, motivating reluctant learners, motivating faculty, cross-disciplinary teaching and student assessment.
Presentations are called for in three categories: exemplary practice panels, recommended for innovative classroom projects; individual presentations, and workshops, which are recommended as the best format for introducing teaching/learning techniques through active learning methods.
For a copy of the call for proposals, contact the Office of Faculty Development, 624-6592. The deadline for proposals is Nov. 1.
