Pitt teams compete in "Corporate Cup" challenge

Pitt staff, faculty and administrators joined together to field teams representing the University in this year's Downtown YMCA's Community Corporate Cup.

The events in the Community Corporate Cup feature 35 teams of employees from local corporations competing against each other in a variety of athletic challenges, ranging from softball and basketball to miniature golf and bowling.

The first event this year, which marked the fifth anniversary of the Community Corporate Cup, was the Great Race. Thirteen other events continue through the month of October.

Pitt was one of 10 new teams joining the Community Corporate Cup activities this year, according to Steve Zupcic of Pitt's Center for Public and Community Services. Zupcic served as overall team captain for Pitt this year.

Captains of Pitt teams participating in this year's events are: Jeff Liebmann, Office of the Provost, recreational triathlon; Kathy O'Connor, Department of Computer Science, softball; Brenda Manning, Office of Faculty Development, basketball; Julian Krug, Department of Athletics, tennis; Niel Lein, University Honors College, volleyball; Karoly Mirnics, School of Medicine, swimming, and Ruby Walker, Office of Human Resources, stationary bike.

Net proceeds benefit the Y's youth scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to children attending summer camp, an after-school latch-key program and the Y child care center.
