Support program begins for families with diabetic kids

Families with diabetic children will receive emotional and psychological support through a project sponsored by Pitt's Generations Together program, the Children's Hospital Diabetes Center and the Allegheny County Department of Aging.

The project, Family Friends, matches adults 55 years of age and older with families who have a child with diabetes. Volunteers spend time with the family, whether it be reading to a diabetic child, helping out parents who feel overwhelmed, or playing with a sibling who feels neglected due to the other child's disease.

Those would like to have a Family Friend volunteer should contact Sheri Boyle at 692-6330. Adults who want to volunteer should call Ruth Drescher at 648-7150.
