WPIC healthy eating program accepting children, adolescents

The Childhood Healthy Eating Program (CHEP) at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic is now accepting referrals.

CHEP aims to reduce weight gain in children who are either morbidly obese (more than twice their ideal weight) or who are obese and have other psychiatric or psychological problems.

In the first sessions, the child and family meet with a therapist to discuss the overall situation and learn how to read nutrition labels, pack healthy lunches, monitor fat grams and set eating limits. As the program continues, parents and children have separate sessions.

For more information about CHEP, call program director Lucene Wisniewski at 624-5600.
