Johnstown president realigns administrative responsibilities

University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown President Albert Etheridge has announced a realignment of administrative functions and responsibilities at UPJ.

According to Etheridge, the moves were made to better reflect his philosophy of administration and to "more closely align functions and activities with affinities." "In this reorganization, I have attempted to define each area's activities," he said. "In some instances, activities which obviously connect or in some cases overlap, have been combined and responsibility given to one area supervisor." Title changes made under the realignment reflect the responsibilities of the office, according to Etheridge.

Title and responsibility changes include:

* Academic Dean David Dunlop is the new vice president for Academic Affairs. He is responsible for all academic divisions, continuing education, institutional data and Owen Library.

* Dean of Student Life Lowell Shaffer's new title will be vice president for Student Affairs. Shaffer will oversee UPJ's athletics, the campus ministry, campus security, parking, counseling services, health services, intramurals, student housing, student programming and student services.

* Director of Administration and Budget Jeffrey Lavine is the new vice president for Finance and Administration. He will supervise auxiliaries (except conferences), the bookstore, the business manager, the comptroller, contract management, budget and finance, food service, personnel, physical plant and purchasing.

* Director of Administration and Public Affairs Michael Flynn is now vice president for Institutional Advancement. He will be responsible for the advisory board, community relations, alumni affairs, audio visual services, development, facility and room reservation, the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, the J. Whalley Memorial Chapel, governmental relations, postal services, printing and publications, public affairs/relations, special events, internal conferences and telecommunications.

* Director of Auxiliary Services Thomas Wonders is now executive director of Planning, Marketing and Management. He will oversee admissions, assessment, external conferences, financial aid, institutional research, learning skills, marketing, planning, the registrar and retention.
