SAC book funds winners announced

The winners of this year’s Staff Association Council’s (SAC) Book Fund for Undergraduate Children of Staff were announced this week.

The annual book fund provides financial assistance toward the purchase of books for selected Pitt undergraduates  whose parent or legal guardian is a staff member at one of Pitt’s five campuses.

Funds were provided by donations from Pitt staff and from proceeds of SAC fund-raisers.

To be eligible, a student must be enrolled currently, have at least a 2.0 average and provide a statement of post-graduation plans and goals, along with a copy of the current academic record from the registrar. A committee of three SAC members, a Human Resources representative and an academic representative determined the winners. Barbara Mowery, immediate past president of SAC, chaired the committee.

Each winner will receive $200 to use at a Pitt bookstore on the student’s campus. Winners also will be recognized at the long-term staff annual reception Dec. 11.

Winning students and their staff member parents are:

— Angela Costanzo, a junior history major, daughter of Theresa Costanzo, Department of Electrical Engineering;

— Andrea Devito, a senior majoring in communication sciences and disorders at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, daughter of Kathryn Devito, Falk Library of the Health Sciences;

— Sophomore Kevin Dolhi, a dual biological sciences and business major, son of Jacqueline Dolhi, Office of Admissions/Financial Aid at the Greensburg campus;

— James Mangan, senior psychology major, son of Terry Mangan of the Department of Surgery, and

— Julie Stefanko, a senior English writing major at Pitt-Greensburg, daughter of Maureen Stefanko from the School of Dental Medicine outpatient services.

Non-senior students who applied but did not win this year’s award are urged to re-apply next year, SAC officials said. For more information, contact the SAC office at 412/624-4236.
