Women's research competition opens; entries are due Oct. 1

The Women's Research Awards Program, sponsored by the National Association for Women in Education (NAWE), is designed to encourage and support excellence in research by, for, and about women. Research considered for the awards may be on any topic relevant to the education and personal and professional development of women and girls. The research may be historical, philosophical, experimental, evaluative, or descriptive.

Two awards may be presented annually:

*Graduate student competition: for research by a graduate student.

*Open competition: for persons at any career/professional level.

The winner in each category will be honored at the NAWE annual conference with a $750 honorarium. Winners who are not members of NAWE also will be given a one-year membership in the association.

The graduate student competition is open to any student enrolled in a graduate student program. Any person may enter the open competition. All entries must be single authorship, original, not previously published or under review elsewhere.

To submit entries, prepare completed manuscripts according to APA guidelines with a limit length of 50 pages total. Proposals are unacceptable. Submit five copies, each with a detachable cover sheet and no other identifying information. Include one copy of the author's resume. Entries must be submitted by Oct. 1 to be considered for the academic year's awards. For return of submissions, include a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage.

Entries are submitted for blind review by the NAWE Women's Research Awards Committee. NAWE retains first claim to publication rights for winning entries, and reserves the right not to make awards if submissions are not of sufficiently high quality.

Mail entries to: Women's Research Awards Committee, Anna Roman-Koller, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Department of Pathology, 701 Scaife Hall.
