Ernest B. Dorow, associate professor in the School of Education, died of a heart attack on May 17, 1995. He was 62 years old.

"It was a big loss," said Kenneth Metz, dean of the School of Education. "Ernie was a highly respected social studies educator. He had a very good rapport with public school districts and was very knowledgeable in the preparation of teachers. We're going to miss him a lot." Dorow earned a bachelor's degree in history, and a master's degree and doctorate in education from Pitt. While studying for his doctorate he taught history and social studies at Edgewood High School from 1958 to 1963. He began teaching full time at the University in 1963.

Dorow is survived by his wife, Arlene; a daughter, Elizabeth Frederick, of Carnegie, and a son, Robert, of Green Tree.

"He was an educator par excellence," added Metz. "He always had the students' interest highest on his priority list. Teaching to him was the premier role of the University faculty member." Memorial contributions can be sent to Trinity Cathedral, 328 Sixth Ave., Pittsburgh 15222.
