UPMC South Side wins community service award

UPMC South Side has won the South Side Business Alliance's (SSBA) 1998 Community Service Award. According to the SSBA, the hospital received the award for its active role in community affairs and organizations, such as the Brashear Association, South Side Local Development Company and South Side Planning Forum. UPMC South Side is also a member of th e SSBA.

"We are honored to receive this award," said Marcie Caplan, chief operating officer of UPMC South Side. "Our employees who volunteer their time to participate in community organizations significantly contributed to our receiving this award," she said. The SSBA noted that UPMC South Side has improved health care accessibility for area residents by establishing new women's health and pediatrics programs and by expanding geriatric services. UPMC South Side also established a community relations committee to bring together the many hospital staff members who participate in community groups to share information and ideas.
