Maria J. Chryssoverghi

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 19 in Heinz Chapel for Maria J. Chrys-soverghi, a faculty member in the School of Social Work, who died suddenly at her home in Gibsonia on Jan. 19, 1999. She was 64.

Funeral and internment services were conducted in her native Greece. Chryssoverghi had been a member of the social work faculty since 1967. She was a graduate of the School of Social Work in Athens, Greece, and the School of Social Work at Tulane University. Prior to joining Pitt's faculty, Chryssoverghi was a social worker at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, an assistant to the academic dean of the School of Social Work in Athens, and director of a community center in Greece.

Chryssoverghi maintained a private practice as a marital and family therapist and conducted training sessions for the professional staffs of medical, mental health and child welfare agencies throughout the region. She was a member of many boards and professional advisory committees including those of Horizon Home, Transitional Living Services, the American Association of University Women, and the American Red Cross. She was a member of the national Association of Social Workers and the American Orthopsychiatric Association, in which she was a fellow.

She is survived by two brothers, Angelos and Anastossios, in Athens, Greece.
