Alternative medicine center to open

In response to the growing use of alternative and complementary medicine, the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Center will open Aug. 16.

The center, located on the first floor of UPMC South Side, will provide consultative services focused on integrating complementary and alternative medical therapies with conventional medical treatments.

Estimated expenditures for alternative medicine professional services in 1997 were $21.2 billion, according to a 1998 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
