Free sessions on hearing health care offered

UPMC’s Department of Audiology is offering free hearing health care educational sessions.

Each session consists of three classes at Eye and Ear Institute, 203 Lothrop St. Summer sessions are 5-8 p.m. July 13, and 12:30-3 p.m. Aug. 10. Participants may attend one, two or all three classes during each session:

• “Understanding Your Hearing Loss.” Topics covered will include anatomy of the ear, how we hear, types of hearing loss, understanding hearing loss, understanding hearing tests and communication difficulties associated with hearing loss.

• “Understanding Hearing Aid Technology.” Different styles and technologies used in hearing aids will be discussed.

• “Telephone Options and Other Assistive Technology.” This class will focus on telephone use with hearing aids and cellular phones, and will provide information on additional alerting and communication devices available to people with hearing loss.
