Dinner honors UPG president

Nearly 200 faculty, staff and administrators from Pitt's Greensburg campus (UPG) attended a dinner on Nov. 22 honoring UPG President George Chambers, who will retire on Dec. 31.

During Chamber's 16 years at UPG, the campus launched a building program that resulted in the construction of the Robertshaw and College Hall dormitories, the Student Center, Faculty Office Building and Millstein Library. In addition, Powers and McKenna halls were renovated and work was started on the renovation of Smith Hall.

Among the speakers at the dinner was Robert Pack, vice provost for Academic Planning and Resources Management on the Pittsburgh campus. He called Chambers "a compassionate spokesperson for the UPG campus" and praised the close working relationship that has grown between UPG and the Office of the Provost under Chambers.

In his retirement address, Chambers offered the following advice for his successor: "You just have to have a vision concerning the campus. It cannot merely be a job; it has to be more than that. A lot of your heart and soul has to be committed as well." The search for a new Greensburg campus president was launched last month.
