Black History Month events planned

Pitt's Black Action Society will celebrate Black History month with its annual African American leadership conference and other events.

The leadership conference will be Feb. 14-16. The theme, "Bridging the Gaps Between Us," reflects the belief that progress and the effective use of resources requires unity.

The keynote address will be given by Ivan Van Sertima, professor of African studies at Rutgers. He will speak on "Leadership in the Twenty-First Century" Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. in David Lawrence auditorium.

A comedy night featuring Arnez J and a step show also will be on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial.

On Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room, Michael Eric Dyson will lecture on "The Myth & Meaning of Malcolm X." An ordained Baptist minister, Dyson has written for numerous publications. In 1992, the National Association of Black Journalists presented him with its award for excellence in journalism for magazines.
